Turkey’s automotive production increases 7% in February 2020

According to figures presented in the Automotive Industrialists’ Association’s (OSD) monthly report for February 2020, total automotive production was 127,882 units in February 2020, 7% higher than the figure for the same month of the previous year. Of this total, car production was 87,589 units in February 2020, 9.4% higher than the figure for the same month of the previous year.

 

Car production results for February 2020 show a continued improvement over the same month of the previous year, partly as a result of a normalising in domestic car market sales, which increased 96.4% to 37,727 units in February compared with the same month of the previous year as a result of falling interest rates. Car exports were up by 6.5% to 73,844 units, and imports up by 94.3% to 22,570 units. 

 

The results for commercial vehicles are not so good, with production increasing only by 2.3% and exports falling by 22.3% in February 2020 compared with the same month of the previous year. Sales of commercial vehicles increased 76.1% though, with imports increasing by 51.3%

 

Total automotive production in the year 2019 was 1,461,244 units, down 5.7% from the figure of 1,550,260 units for the previous year.

Total car production in the year 2019 was 982,642 units, down 4.3% from the figure of 1,026,481 units for the previous year.

 

Total automotive production was 1,550,260 units in 2018, 1,695,731 units in 2017, 1,485,927 units in 2016, and 1,358,796 units in 2015.

Total car production was 1,026,481 units in 2018, 1,142,906 units in 2017, 950,888 units in 2016, and 791,027 units in 2015.

 

2017 was a record year for automotive production in Turkey, but production fell 8.6% in 2018, and with the 5.7% fall in the year 2019, automotive production in 2019 has fallen back below its 2016 level.

 

In OSD’s report for February 2020, figures for production, sales, imports and exports are as follows :

 

**   Total production increased by 7% in February 2020 to 127,882 units compared with the same month of the previous year. Of this total, production of cars increased by 9.4% to 87,589 units.

**   Total automotive sales increased by 91.5% in February 2020 to 48,972 units compared with the same month of the previous year.

**   Total automotive imports increased by 87.6% in February 2020 to 27,393 units compared with the same month of the previous year

**   Total automotive exports decreased by 3.5% in February 2020 to 102,615 units compared with the same month of the previous year.

**   In USD terms, total automotive exports decreased by 0.2% to USD 2,571 million, with car exports increasing by 13.4% to USD 1,080 million in February 2020.

 

In OSD’s report for the first two months of 2020, figures for production, sales, imports and exports are as follows :

 

**   Total production increased by 3.6% in the first two months of 2020 to 237,665 units compared with the same period of the previous year. Of this total, production of cars increased by 7.6% to 162,985 units.

**   Total automotive sales increased by 90.8% in the first two months of 2020 to 77,095 units compared with the same period of the previous year.

**   Total automotive imports increased by 89.8% in the first two months of 2020 to 43,676 units compared with the same period of the previous year.

**   Total automotive exports decreased by 3.6% in the first two months of 2020 to 192,577 units compared with the same period of the previous year.

**   In USD terms, total automotive exports increased by 1.6% to USD 5,035 million, and car exports increased by 19.7% to USD 2,113 million in the first two months of 2020 compared with the same period of the previous year.
