Turkey’s car production increases 5.6%, but commercial vehicles down 10.1% in January 2020

According to figures presented in the Automotive Industrialists’ Association’s (OSD) monthly report for January 2020, total automotive production was 109,783 units in January 2020, 0.1% lower than the figure for the same month of the previous year. Of this total, car production was 75,396 units in January 2020, 5.6% higher than the figure for the same month of the previous year.

 

Automobile production results for January 2020 show a welcoming improvement over the same month of the previous year, partly as a result of a normalising in domestic automobile market sales, which increased 100.5% to 22,016 units in January compared with the same month of the previous year as a result of falling interest rates. Automobile exports were up by 2.8% to 60,438 units, and imports up by 102% to 13,690 units. 

 

The results for commercial vehicles are not so good, with production falling by 10.1% and exports falling by 14.7% in January 2020 compared with the same month of the previous year. Sales of commercial vehicles increased 55.4% though, with imports increasing by 46.7%

 

Total automotive production in the year 2019 was 1,461,244 units, down 5.7% from the figure of 1,550,260 units for the previous year.

Total car production in the year 2019 was 982,642 units, down 4.3% from the figure of 1,026,481 units for the previous year.

 

Total automotive production was 1,550,260 units in 2018, 1,695,731 units in 2017, 1,485,927 units in 2016, and 1,358,796 units in 2015.

Total car production was 1,026,481 units in 2018, 1,142,906 units in 2017, 950,888 units in 2016, and 791,027 units in 2015.

 

2017 was a record year for automotive production in Turkey, but production fell 8.6% in 2018, and with the 5.7% fall in the year 2019, automotive production in 2019 has fallen back below its 2016 level.

 

In OSD’s report for January 2020, figures for production, sales, imports and exports are as follows :

 

**   Total production decreased by 0.1% in January 2020 to 109,783 units compared with the same month of the previous year. Of this total, production of cars increased by 5.6% to 75,396 units.

**   Total automotive sales increased by 88.8% in January 2020 to 28,025 units compared with the same month of the previous year.

**   Total automotive imports increased by 93.6% in January 2020 to 16,275 units compared with the same month of the previous year

**   Total automotive exports decreased by 3.7% in January 2020 to 89,962 units compared with the same month of the previous year.

**   In USD terms, total automotive exports increased by 3.5% to USD 2,464 million, with car exports increasing by 27.2% to USD 1,033 million in January 2020.

 

In OSD’s report for the year 2019, figures for production, sales, imports and exports are as follows :

 

**   Total production decreased by 5.7% in the year 2019 to 1,461,244 units compared with the previous year. Of this total, production of cars decreased by 4.3% to 982,642 units.

**   Total automotive sales decreased by 23.3% in the year 2019 to 491,909 units compared with the previous year.

**   Total automotive imports decreased by 30.3% in the year 2019 to 277,070 units compared with the previous year.

**   Total automotive exports decreased by 5% in the year 2019 to 1,252,586 units compared with the previous year.

**   In USD terms, total automotive exports decreased by 3.1% to USD 31,232 million, and car exports decreased by 4.5% to USD 11,865 million in the year 2019 compared with the previous year.
